1951 Eastern Open

September 13 to 16, 1951

Cary

Mayor Tommy D'Alesandro Jr. holds the D'Alesandro Trophy, named after Hizzoner, into which names of the winners of the Eastern Open are engraved. Dr. Cary Middlecoff holds a trophy that winners take home and put on the mantlepiece. Older viewers will remember that what the mayor is wearing is called a "suit," and that the doctor is wearing a "sportscoat."

Editor's notes: The scores are taken from the September 21, 1951 issue of Golf World. The magazine reported "the Baltimore production saw a full day's play washed out by rain, which was annoying to Hord Hardin of St. Louis, who scored a hole-in-one at the sixth hole before the course was ruled unplayable. Oddly, Hardin doesn't appear in the official PGA summary of the tournament. Very baffling."

Only five amateur golfers' scores are listed. My guess is that only the amateurs who made the halfway cut and played all four rounds are listed.
